Dear Tiger Alumni and Friends, I am writing this to let you know of a MAJOR accomplishment 3 fellow Tigers achieved recently. Two High School Senior Boys and an Incoming Freshman Girl recently qualified for Junior Olympics in Track and Field.. Not only is it a great honor to be the only 3 from South Texas to qualify, but they did this without a Track Team for Support. We do not have an AAU team in the area for throwers. These 3 did this all with hard work and dedication on their own....sounds a lot like Tiger Spirit if you ask me. The boys have qualified in shot put and discus. It is the last time in their High School Career that they can have such an opportunity. Not only is Jr Olympics a great honor, but it is a venue for college scouts to find new athletes for their programs. I hope these boys will use this experience to be able to find a school that not only provides them a throwing career, but an excellent education. I have been very impressed with these 2 boys character. They took my daughter under their wing and helped her to improve in all of her events this summer. She not only qualified in shot put, discus and javelin, but threw personal bests all summer. So when I heard they may not be able to go to Jr Olympics because airfare was too high, I just couldn’t let that happen. So here I am pulling on your heartstrings and hopefully your wallets a little. Please do what you can to help these 3 make the trip. If you know someone in the newsrooms that may pick up this story, that would be great. We would love the Coastal Bend to know of these Carroll Tigers aspiring to be the best they can be. If you have or know of a business who would like to make a donation, I am willing to be the contact person. I plan on helping the boys get their airfare covered first and then split any additional donations 3 ways. We have our airfare covered. Thanks in advance. Once a Tiger, Always a Tiger! Thanks in advance for anything you may be able to do to help these kids. Lari Jo Johnston Class of 1992
